Time to tell the truth about pike perch this season. Sure, you can blame the weather and other reasons for why it stopped biting actively, but the fact remains — the fish has already gone into winter dormancy. It bites in short bursts and stays pretty passive overall. You can still catch them, but it's getting a lot harder, and forget about big catches — even in the best windows. But as always, you can figure out the right approach. This time an M5 cheat saved me — though fishing cost me two packs of lures: the pike perch was only grabbing the tail or just chasing the bait away from the spot. And it all ended with a broken rod that couldn't handle the power casts this time around. And a big plea to fellow anglers: don't take small fish. I'm seeing it more and more — both older guys and kids bagging pike perch you can practically see through. If you want to take fish — take them within legal limits and size, not ten-centimeter pike perch. Let's protect our waters together.
