On Saturday, Igor Kovalenko (owner, engineer and developer of Trident VA company) invited me to meet up, and it turned out we live pretty close to each other — which is huge for me these days with how tight my schedule is. But man, it was an incredibly interesting and useful meeting. Igor develops lures, and Andrii Veduta is the designer — this is a Ukrainian brand that's about to make serious waves in the fishing scene. I got to see cutting-edge designs that nobody's laid eyes on yet, and I was blown away by the approach, the dedication, the love and philosophy that goes into this product. Maybe it sounds like I'm selling something right now, but there's way more to it — it's more like pride in what's ours, Ukrainian-made, and I can't hide it. I'm equally proud of the Viskaart developers because they've got something special and it's ours!!! We talked from 7 to 11:15 PM, then I headed home. After diving deep into Trident lure-building, I spent half the night going through the test baits they gave me, and the next evening after work I rushed out to try them in action. And what? Results didn't keep me waiting. From under the bushes on a Trident Range 80 sp sr 8.6g, after a solid strike, a decent pike came to the net. Since the lure is super responsive — just a light twitch and it fires up, does those side-to-side moves, with fantastic rolling action... The pike appreciated it and was quickly sent back to her domain. That evening there was one more really solid bite but unfortunately the fish got off. Of course, I didn't have time that evening to thoroughly test all the baits I got for evaluation in the water. But I can say for sure — these lures catch fish, the colors and action are fantastic, they compete with the Japanese stuff (and the price is better). I'm confident this company has a big future, if only because the first thing the developer asked me was what I think about the lures, what needs work, what I liked and didn't like. I'll be keeping close tabs on the brand's development and actively participating in testing new lures and the ones I got — stay tuned for reports. The fishing was short but productive and inspiring!
