School Pond😍School Pond· Kyiv Oblast03.10.2026, 10:21Wanted to be on the lake by 7 AM. But before heading out, the little guy wakes up. Wanted to come along too. Got to the lake at 7:30. Tried everything. Fish were passive and didn't want anything. No soft plastics, no crankbaits, NOTHING! Put a spinner on the kid - meps 2. And on the first cast a pike hits him. His first pike ever caught! 'Dad help!' you could hear across the whole pond. I got zilch. But I'm really happy for the little guy. I was planning to stay till late night, and he wanted to go till morning. Well, he won. Had to set up a tent for him, the one he'd been dreaming about. Evening float fishing was driving me crazy, and the worms were small perch-sized, like a pinky finger. Got 3 bites overnight from crucian carp 600-800g, all went back to grow. At 06.00, a perch bit on the first cast. After that, bites disappeared, except for the occasional nibbles. There were bites but no hooksets, which was really frustrating—why won't a 1.5 tangu lure get swallowed? Then it finally worked out, turned out these were perch with mouths the size of a pinky finger (5 cm). At 20.00, I went to sit with a bobber. In an hour—1 bite = 1 crucian carp. Caught crucian carp, perch, and as a bonus, a pike on 0.16 fluoro that weighed 775g. Lucky it grabbed the edge. The drag sang so nice, but I still managed to land her. Released all 3 fish with a personal promise they'll bite just as good next time. Took the little one to where the big perch were biting. Total bust. Time spent was wonderful though! Even without fish. But the natural beauty, the quiet, the peace.... Fish isn't everything, but no bites does get you down.
