Затока утворилася в 1980-х роках, коли намивали житломасив Троєщина. Біля Десенки було невеличке озерце, поєднане з нею протокою. Земснаряди працювали тоді вдень і вночі. В результаті їх роботи утворився кар'єр з глибинами до 30 м і розміром не менше 30 га. Вода прозора, дно можна бачити до глибини 5 м. Рослинності дуже мало навіть на мілководді.
