✈️✈️✈️ Day #4. Local native taught me how to fish!!!! Yesterday's lure bite on the shallows went down in flames: wind kicked up waves and the lure kept snagging on coral almost every cast - had to go for a swim to free the bait. And the fish retreated to deeper water.... Switched to jigs - but all I found were drop-offs!!!! Started thinking about calling it quits on this fishing trip, but a few hundred meters away the locals were fishing, and out of pure curiosity I decided to go check out what they were doing. Nothing fancy or sporty: - no rods - fishing with thick line and big hook - using meat as bait - casting the rig by hand (like we used to do with hand lines back in childhood) a few meters deep while standing on the reef edge Turned out to be pretty friendly guys, set me up at a spot next to them and showed me with hand gestures which direction to cast. Getting the idea, I grab the heaviest sinker I've got - 12 grams + silicone on an offset hook, cast out to 10 meters and wait for the rig to hit bottom. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. After about 3 minutes - bait's on the bottom. Couple of light twitches - aggressive bite, fish on the hook!!! Then comes the real quest - purely vertical fighting. The fish tries to lead me into the reef, my job is to not let that happen!!! Things are rolling! Bites on every cast, but I can't land every fifth fish, the sharp reef gets in the way - either cut off in the coral or snagged with the fish tangled in it. In 40 minutes I've landed about 10 fish. Fed the locals! They happily took my catch off the hook and tossed it in their shoulder bags))) their fishing was way worse, just a few small green fish between the two of them))) Got my fill of it and headed straight back to the hotel!!!
