First trout fishing of the year and scouting a new spot at the same time – got one bite right away on the third cast but it was a miss. Managed to land one on the third attempt and the fish started biting actively, but they were pretty picky about lures. They liked two baits best – Fishup morio in hot pink and a Flagman areata 3.9g spoon. Started with deeper, more open areas throwing spinners but got nothing. Then switched to soft plastics and immediately started getting bites. Landed one nice one over 30cm but unfortunately lost it right at my feet. Still happy with the session – caught 6 fish, small ones but interesting to weigh, plus 7 or 9 more bites. For a first outing of the year and scouting a new spot, I'd say that's solid. Found and caught one of my target species so that's 50% of the goal done. We'll hunt for the other one another time and hopefully land it.
