Description
Spoon/metal jig vs Keitech.
Headed out again today. Got a package from my supplier loaded with soft plastics—ordered strictly Keitech this time, and it had 2.5-2.8 inch sizes for decent perch. Worked one section (a backwater with light current) about 7 by 7 meters. Threw a bunch of different plastics (all one brand though). Only thing—10 gram weight because the distance was far and there's no way I'm casting 4-5 grams that far. Not a single bite. Then I grabbed a spoon, cast it for a couple minutes and pulled this perch out by the face 🤔
Right after that the guys showed up with a huge spider jig they dropped in that same backwater and on the first lift got 3 solid perch, then a couple more and that was it. So where Japan was silent, there were at least 6 perch sitting around.
Weird conclusion—jig-like lures actually work 🤷♂️
And an even weirder question—if a spoon is a jig, then what the hell is a jigging spoon? I once caught a killer pike on a 30 gram Duo jigging spoon—plastics and hard baits were completely dead that day. And that pike actually swallowed it.
So here's what we get: when fish aren't active but they're feeding—plastics are useless. But jig-like lures falling attract fish to come check it out, and when it pulls away from bottom they get hooked in the face 🤷♂️
By the way, back in the fall during pike feeding frenzy—there were dozens of pike getting hooked in the face too.
Basically the line between snagging fish with huge hooks and actual fishing is razor thin.
