Strypa River

One of the toughest fishing days of the year. Started out planning to catch some perch at one of two ponds. Hit the first pond and after two hours of fishing and constantly switching lures, I got absolutely nothing. Figured I wasn't gonna crack the code on that pond today, so I decided to check out the other one where there's supposed to be perch too. But that was a bust as well—got zilch there too. After four hours of chasing perch around, I decided to give it one more shot for an hour down on the river, targeting chub on a micro jig. Got to my spot and rigged up a 1.1 inch tan-colored jig I'd had good success with in winter, 1 gram weight. About 15-20 minutes in and bam—exactly what I was hoping for. A chub took it, which was awesome since it was the first bite of the whole day. Put up a decent fight for a lazy fish, managed to land it for some photos, then sent it back on its way. Unfortunately that turned out to be the only fish of the day—got one more false bite after that and nothing else. But honestly, even though it was a grind, I'd call it a success. At least I didn't go home empty-handed.
