Baraboyskoye Reservoir

We headed out at five in the morning, grabbed some bait at the store and made it to the water. The weather was great, beautiful spot (though I guess there aren't any ugly spots when you're fishing), but the fish just weren't biting. Both worms and maggots were getting nibbled by something we couldn't figure out, no actual strikes. The corn wasn't working either, and the fancy modern stuff like boilies, pop-ups, and pellets? The fish wanted nothing to do with it. There were plenty of anglers around, but by two o'clock they'd all cleared out. In the end, my dad and I each caught maybe 300 grams of carp. My buddy walked the whole reservoir looking for pike but came back empty-handed. Our neighbors didn't even get that. There was this guy on the left in a wetsuit, wading in up to his, uh, waist, throwing soft plastics around. He caught a small pike and fell in the water twice 😁. The sad part is we've been coming to this reservoir since 2015, and it just gets worse every year. People are netting the fish. Used to be you could catch tons of carp in a short outing, but they just took everything without measure, and here we are. Free fishing is nice and all, but like they say, good things don't last. P.S. There's still some drunk locals on the right side trying to tell people the reservoir is now paid, going on about how much fish there used to be here (which they themselves netted out). That's it for the report. We won't be coming back here anytime soon.
